March 31st, Auckland, New Zealand (reporter Huang Xingwei from Xinhua News Agency) The International Sustainable Cities Forum was held in Auckland, the largest city of New Zealand. Nearly 200 real estate developers and local government officials from New Zealand and China came together and discussed urban sustainable development.
New Zealand Minister of Internal Affairs and Minister for Land Information, Dr. Richard Worth said in his speech, New Zealand lay much stress on environmental protection, and it was one of the few countries in the timber production possessed with the capacity of sustainable growth. New Zealand looked forward to participating in Shanghai World Expo to show the world it beauty with realized coexistence of sustainable urban development, the natural scene and the modern new economy.
Chinese Ambassador to New Zealand-Zhang Limin said, the forum coincided with the first anniversary of the signing of Free Trade Agreement between China and New Zealand, and it was quite significant, and reflected the increasingly closer exchanges and cooperation of people from all walks of life of the two countries. The urban construction achievements of New Zealand not only benefited from the beautiful natural environment, but also benefited from the emphasis and implementation of sustainable development of New Zealand Government, and the experience of sustainable urban development of New Zealand provided an important reference for other countries.
The Chairman of the Board of Directors of Vanke Group Wang Shi said, currently Chinese real estate enterprises were undergoing the transformational process from the emphasis on quantity to quality, it was worth learning from the successful experience of green building of New Zealand, and there was also a big collaboration space for the two countries.
Some representatives of New Zealand real estate developers also introduced their experiences on adopting high quality construction materials and technology to protect the environment at the Forum.
This Forum was co-hosted by Shenzhen Jia Cui (China) Convention and Exhibition and "New Zealand Chinese Herald". The Mayor of Auckland-John Banks and the Chinese Consul General in Auckland-Liao Ju Hua both attended the opening ceremony.
