The "Smart Community Infrastructures — Requirements for Data Framework and Functions Based on City Information Modeling Platform" (ISO 37187) Has Been Successfully Set Up as a International Standard

   Recently, the City Information Model (CIM) standard promoted by the Information Center of the Ministry of Housing and Digital Technique of Intelligent Building and Residence Community (SAC/TC426) in conjunction with relevant units, the "Smart community infrastructures — Requirements for data framework and functions based on city information modeling platform" has been successfully set up as an international standard in the agency ISO/TC 268/SC1 (Sub-Technical Committee on Smart City Infrastructure of the Technical Committee on Sustainable Urban Development), with the number of ISO 37187.

   As the core of digital twin city, CIM, integrates multi-scale and multi-dimensional spatial data of the city’s above and below ground, indoors and outdoors spaces, now, past and future, as well as IOT perception data. It also helps build up an organic synthesis of urban information in three-dimensional digital space, which provides a new method, a new way, and a new tool for the innovation of detailed management and governance of the city. For now, the CIM construction is in full swing across the country. The establishment of the ISO 37187 international standard is an important embodiment of summarizing the experience of the MoHURD Development in taking the lead in promoting the building of the CIM infrastructure platform and promoting the engineering and construction standards to go international, marking the fact that our country’s role has getting important on setting the international standards in this field.

   This work starts in 2020. Under the guidance of the standards authorities of the Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development, the MoHURD’s Information Center and the Digital Technique of Intelligent Building and Residence Community, in conjunction with relevant units and experts in the industry, have revised the text of the international standard ISO 37187 draft dozens of times, and have participated in six international conferences. At the same time, the Working Group has continuously informed the representatives of member countries of the significance of the standardization and the work proposals, and has sought participation in and support for the preparation of the work. At the NP (New Work Item Proposal, abbreviated as NP) voting stage, it finally succeeded in obtaining the unanimous support of 15 countries and was officially established the project.

   The next step will be to set up a domestic preparation team and an international promotion team to promote the development of this international standard in a coordinated manner, with the plan to complete the preparation and publication of this international standard by August 2026.
