¡¡¡¡On March 18th, under the approval of United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon, Jia Cui (China) Environmental Promotive Center received the formal reply from the United Nations Global Compact organization that approved Jia Cui¡¯s admission to the organization. This is another global environmental NGO approved by the United Nations after a series of rigorous examinations.
¡¡¡¡"Global Compact" was first proposed by former United Nations Secretary General Kofi Annan in Davos, Switzerland at the ¡°World Economic Forum¡±, and then was established in January 1999. By ¡°Global Compact¡±, he called upon the business industry, based on voluntary action, to comply with business ethics, respect human rights, labor standards and other internationally recognized principles concerning environment, adopt responsible and creative business models, and build up a global mechanism promoting a sustainable economic development and an enhanced social benefits so as to present the world humanity and a good balance between economic activities and social welfare, by which the business world bore the relevant social responsibilities. In July 2000, representatives of the relevant countries met at United Nations Headquarters, officially launched the "Global Compact¡± programme.
Jia Cui (China) Environmental Promotive Center is an environmental NGO with 10-year history, which has maintained a close working relationship with many United Nations agencies over the years, and has gained highly praise from the United Nations. In 2001, Jia Cui (China) introduced the UNEP's "LivCom International Garden City and Community Competition" into China, which promoted nearly 30 Chinese cities and 400 communities to participate in competition, which has greatly promoted China's urban and community economic development and the green living environment improvement process. Beginning from 2004, Jia Cui (China) increased China's cities and communities¡¯ pace of exchanging liveable communities between China and oversea countries, also introduced the liveable communities competition from China to over 26 countries worldwide, making 105 communities fully comply with the United Nations International Community livability standards worldwide. Since 1999, Jia Cui has remained a foothold on two areas-the city and the community, and set its footprint in more than 30 countries and regions, by using the green theme to promote the green economy, improving public environmental awareness, and organizing large number of thematic conferences, exhibitions and exchange programs,.
In 2009, Jia Cui (China) and the UNEP established a even closer cooperation-these two organs signed a formal Memorandum of Understanding, making Jia Cui (China) the only executive agency to implement the UN¡¯s "Sustainable Urban and Community Project" in China.
The admission to the United Nations Global Compact programme, will make Jia Cui (China), based on the principles of the Global Compact, bear its social responsibility, and promote the development of Chinese businesses¡¯ social responsibility with a purpose to become an excellent global corporate citizenship.
